This award is about building community and is not specific to any particular platform. The winning entry should demonstrate the best use of social media to engage and build community in a relevant way.

“Founded in Victoria BC in 2011, the Social Media Awards™ is the first-of-its-kind in Canada, honouring social media innovation, creativity and excellence. The inaugural Social Media Awards in 2011 attracted more than 100 nominations from across Western Canada and the USA.
Our goal is to identify, define and celebrate excellence and best practices in social media today.
In its first year there were 8 social media categories. “Coasties” were awarded to social media marketers and aficionados. The event was a huge success with social media professionals and devotees from 4 Canadian provinces and 5 US states participating.
This year we are calling for more participation and have increased the competition to 9 categories. The Social Media Awards™ is organized by Social Media Camp™ with support from an Advisory Council comprised of social media professionals from across North America.
SMA is independent from any publication, association, agency or media company. We have a passion for excellence and thrive on rewarding and celebrating our craft and industry.”
The Social Media Awards will be held on May 2nd, 2014 in Victoria, BC during Social Media Camp.
