Google Shutting Down Business Profile Websites
Google has announced that in March 2024, they will be shutting down websites made with Google Business Profiles. Profile Sites are basic websites (free & simple) powered by the information on your Business Profile.
Key Points:
- Domains that end with business.site and negocio.site will be removed from the website field on Google Business Profiles in March.
- Google Business Profiles themselves will not be affected (just any website created from it).
- When customers visit a website made with Google Business Profile after March, they’ll be redirected to the Business Profile instead.
- If your website was not created in your Google Business Profile, these changes will not affect you.
When your website is turned off
Once the website made with your Google Business Profile is turned off in March 2024, customers attempting to visit the website will be redirected to your Business Profile instead. Note: Your visitors will only be redirected to your Business Profile until June 10, 2024. After that date, visitors will see a “page not found” error when attempting to visit your website.
If you still want to keep a website for your business ( as you definitely should ), then you need to create a new site on another platform like WordPress, Shopify or Squarespace. These are some of the best options out there for small businesses that are easy to use, reliable and affordable.
Don’t forget other Channels, Forwarders or Links
Rememeber to update your website links from any 3rd party services, paid ads ( Google, Meta, Bing ads, Newletters, Banners ) or print advertising too. If your website has been out there for a while, this may be a longer to-do list than you might think. The good news is you have some time to work through everything in the interim.
